Lesson Learned

from $14.95
The title of this painting is earned, the hard way. Here’s the story. I was contacted by a woman to paint this picture. The reference picture was a small, faded, 3”x3” 1970s era photo. The potential client wanted me to paint the picture as a small 8”x8” painting (remember I like big canvases and I cannot lie!). I politely tried to tell her that I was not her artist and that if she was wanting an exact replica of the photo that she should have it printed out on canvas. I also told her that I was not a photo realist and that anything I painted would have my spin (more color) on it versus being exact. She persisted that she loved my style and knew I could do an amazing job with the painting. We settled on 18” square as it’s really the smallest I’m comfortable painting. After squinting through all of the minute details I sent her some images of the painting and she said she “hated it”. That it was nothing like the photo and she refused to pay for it. Okay. So my Lesson Learned is this: Be true to yourself even when pressed. I have personally kept this painting as a daily reminder to myself to be true to me. (Plus it’s her loss! Most whom have seen it love it! And personally I think it’s better than the reference photo.) Oil on canvas. 18”x18”. Private Collection. Prints are available through this site. This image is available for the following products: Metal Prints, Canvas Prints, Framed Prints, Acrylic Wall Prints, Acrylic Blocks, Standout Prints, Wood Prints, Giclee Fine Art Prints
